Submetering, is known as a billing process by which a property owner (or association of
property owners, in the case of co-ops or condominiums) bills tenants based on metered total
water use. The property owner is then responsible for payment of a water bill for the entire
property from a public water system. Electric Utility Billing is also an option if electric use is sub-
metered for each unit.
There are several top quality metering systems such as Inovonics and Hexagram. These
utility meters can be read remotely eliminating the need to send a meter reader to the
property. A meter reading file is then imported to the billing company software and bills are
calculated and mailed to the resident.
